What is the best way to hold a cuban militia style mini 14?

This is the one weapon system I can't seem to get use to especially troublesome is the magazine release mechanism. I just can't seem to load the magazine without dropping my sight picture and fumbling with it. I hate the iron sights on it I just can't seem to aim worth a sh*t with them mostly from the standing position
