How should my Victorian characters meet?

So it's like set in 1820 and the girls just been dumped and her brothers old militia or lawyer (not sure which - what do you think?) buddy comes to town but I'm sure why he should come how he and she meet. Remember that I don't want them to just be introduced but I guess I'd consider that if you make it creative.
