Why did the U.S. invade Libya and not Sudan?

First, it's not just the US, it includes Britain, France, Italy etc etc. They are doing it because Gaddafi is using the Libyan airforce to bomb his own people. It is considered that this is going too far, to put down an uprising. Sudan is not bombing its own people at this point.
